  • Make the customer comfortable by escorting him/her to the table.
  • If there are any specials for the day, the waitress should make the customer aware.
  • Write patrons food orders on order slips, memorize orders, or enter orders into computers for transferring to kitchen staff. Then, she has to read out the placed order to the customer for confirmation.
  • Make sure that the salt, pepper, sugar bottles are filled and kept on the table.
  • Clean the table after the patron has finished dining.
  • Prepare tables for meals, including setting up items such as linens, silverware, and glassware.
  • Present menu to customers and answer their questions about the menu items.
  • Make recommendation in terms of food and drinks if customer asks for it.
  • Prepare checks that itemize and total meal costs and sales taxes.
  • Take payments from the customer.
  • Liaise with other members of the staff to ensure all the above is done
