In 1964 the University of Waikato was officially opened by then Governor-General, Sir Bernard Fergusson. Today Waikato University is home to 13,500 students and has continued to be a breeding ground for independent thought and progressive learning. The Management School is among an elite few in the world. The University is amongst New Zealand leaders in Computer Science and the Law School, by virtue of its emphasis on law in context and Treaty Law, produces graduates who are prized for their unique ability to relate to the needs of a bi-cultural New Zealand
